How a credit card works in Ahead

Spend on the card from a category, as usual. Ahead moves that money into the card's payment category, so it is ready when the bill comes.

Spending on the card

Record a card spend like any other, with the category it is for, such as Groceries. Groceries goes down, as it would with cash.

At the same moment, Ahead moves the same amount into the card's payment category. It has the card's name, and sits in the Credit Card Payments group at the bottom of the Budget screen. That money is now set aside for the bill.

You spend ₹2,000 on groceries with the card. Groceries goes down by ₹2,000, and the card's payment category goes up by ₹2,000, ready for the bill.

Why it works this way

The money for the groceries was already in your budget. Paying by card turns it from money for food into money you owe the bank. Moving it to the payment category keeps it for that.

So if every card spend comes from a category that had the money, the bill is always covered.

If the category did not have enough

Spend ₹5,000 on the card from a category with ₹3,000 in it, and the category goes to −₹2,000, in red, like any overspend. The payment category still gets the full ₹5,000. Cover the red category, and the bill is covered too.

An old balance from before you started

If the card already owed money when you added it, that money was spent before you started with Ahead, so nothing in your budget is set aside to pay it.

When you add the card

  1. Enter what the card owes under Amount currently owed.
  2. Choose how to cover it. Set it aside now uses your money left to assign. Spread it over asks for a share each month, for as many months as you choose. Decide later changes nothing for now.
  3. Press Add account.

The card's row on the Budget screen then shows how much is set aside and what this month still needs. Fund the targets fills it with the rest. Paying the bill or spending on the card does not change what it asks for.

To plan it later, or change the months, open the card's line under Credit Card Payments on the Budget screen (press its Available figure) and choose Plan an old balance. You can also type an amount in its Assigned box, like any other category.
