Matching your bank balance

Tick transactions off as your bank shows them, then reconcile: enter the balance from your bank, and Ahead finds any difference.

Cleared and uncleared

A transaction is cleared once it has happened at the bank. A card spend that is still pending, or a cheque not yet cashed, is uncleared.

In an account's list of transactions, the dot beside each one shows which it is. Click the dot to tick it off. The form has a Cleared box too.

Reconciling

With your bank's app or statement open

  1. Open the account and press Reconcile. On a phone, it is in the ⋯ menu at the top.
  2. Enter the Statement balance, and the date it is As of.
  3. Ahead compares it with what is Cleared in Ahead, and shows the Difference.
  4. Press Reconcile.

If the difference is ₹0, your books agree with the bank. Every cleared transaction is then locked, so it cannot be changed by mistake. To change one later, click its dot to unlock it.

If there is a difference

First look for a missing or wrong transaction, and fix it. If you cannot find it, reconcile anyway, and Ahead records the difference for you.

More at the bank than in Ahead
The extra is money Ahead had not seen, so it goes to Left to assign.
Less at the bank than in Ahead
The missing money goes to a Reconciliation Adjustment category. It stays there, in red, until you cover it.
