Runway: when your balance is lowest
Runway shows your balance for the rest of this month and all of next month, and the day it is lowest. Can I afford it? shows what a purchase would do to that day.
What Runway shows
Open Runway. On a phone it is under More. The line is your balance for the rest of this month and all of next month. Your lowest point is the least you will have in that time, and the day it happens.
It counts everything that already has a date: repeating transactions like rent and salary, loan EMIs, and credit card bills on their due date. It also takes out the rest of this month's budget, spread evenly over the days to come.
| What happens | Your balance |
|---|---|
| Money in your accounts today | ₹80,000 |
| ₹20,000 still budgeted for this month | ₹60,000 |
| Rent of ₹25,000 on the 1st | ₹35,000 |
| Car EMI of ₹10,000 on the 3rd | ₹25,000 |
| Salary of ₹70,000 on the 5th | ₹95,000 |
Money in your accounts today

Here your lowest point is ₹25,000, on the 3rd. Under the figure, Cash today, Committed by then and Budget still to spend show how it was worked out. The list under the chart shows every payment on its date, with the balance it leaves.
If it says no income is known
Runway does not guess your salary. If your salary is not set up to repeat, it shows No income is known in this window, and the line only goes down.
To fix it, record your salary once with a repeat: when you add it, open its date and set Repeat to Every month. Runway will then show it on its day. Adding income.
Can I afford it?
On the Runway screen
- Under Can I afford it?, fill in What is it, How much and When. The date can be as late as the last day of next month.
- Press Work it out.
It shows your lowest point with the purchase, next to the line without it. If you would go below ₹0, it says Takes you under. In the example above, a ₹30,000 sofa on the 25th would take your lowest point from ₹25,000 to −₹5,000.
It also shows where the money would come from: first from money you have not assigned yet, then from categories that hold money, biggest first. It does not tell you yes or no. That choice is yours.

- How Ahead worksMoney arrives in Left to assign. You decide where every rupee goes by moving it into categories, and you spend from those categories.
- Wait before you buy: the WishlistWrite down something you want instead of buying it. After a wait you choose, Ahead asks again: Still want it, or Let it go. What you let go adds up.
- Setting a target for a categoryA target says what a category needs: an amount every month, an amount to keep in it, or a sum saved by a date. The Budget then shows what it still needs.
