Setting a target for a category

A target says what a category needs: an amount every month, an amount to keep in it, or a sum saved by a date. The Budget then shows what it still needs.

Three kinds of target

Every month adds the same amount each month, whatever was left over. Use it for rent, an EMI or school fees.

Keep topped up fills the category back up to an amount. Only the gap is added. Use it for groceries or fuel, where you want the same amount ready each month.

By a date puts aside an equal share each month, so the whole amount is ready by the month you choose. Use it for insurance, Diwali or a new phone.

Example₹60,000 of insurance, due in six months
  1. Month 1

    You add
    ₹10,000
    In the category
    ₹10,000
  2. Month 2

    You add
    ₹10,000
    In the category
    ₹20,000
  3. Month 6

    You add
    ₹10,000
    In the category
    ₹60,000

Setting one

On the Budget screen

  1. Press the category's Available figure, then Set a target. On a computer you can also point at the category's row and press Set a target.
  2. Choose Every month, Keep topped up or By a date.
  3. Enter the amount. For By a date, choose the month under Needed by.
  4. Press Save target.

To change or remove it, open the category the same way and choose Edit target.

What the Budget shows

Next to each category with a target you see how far along it is, such as ₹5,000 of ₹8,000. When this month's share is in, it says Funded, Topped up or On track.

The Budget also shows how much your targets still need this month, and under Next month what they will ask for then, next to your money left to assign today.
