Which account do I add?
Find what you have in the list below. Most things are a bank account, cash or a card. Money between you and another person is a loan.
Find what you have
| You have | Add | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| A savings account your salary comes into | **Bank — Savings** | Its balance is money you can assign. |
| A current account | **Bank — Current** | Works the same as savings. |
| Notes in your wallet or at home | **Cash** | Assign and spend it like money in a bank. |
| A wallet balance, such as Paytm or Amazon Pay | **Cash**, named after the wallet | Works the same as cash. |
| A credit card | **Credit Card** | Each spend sets aside the money to pay the bill. |
| An overdraft on your bank account | **Line of Credit / Overdraft** | Works like a credit card. |
| Mutual funds, shares, an FD, PPF, EPF or NPS | **Investment** | Counts in your net worth. Never offered to assign. |
| A flat, a plot, gold or a car | **Asset** | Counts in your net worth only. |
| Money you borrowed from a person, a bank or an app | A loan: **I borrowed it**, from **Loans** | The money comes to Left to assign. The loan shows what you still owe. |
| Money you lent to someone | A loan: **I lent it out**, from **Loans** | The money leaves a category, and goes back to it as it is repaid. |
| A card purchase the bank turned into EMIs | **Convert to EMI**, on the card | Each month's EMI is added to the card's bill, and the budget asks for it. |
| Money you owe, with no payments to record | **Liability** | Lowers your net worth. Does not change what you can assign. |

Not sure between two?
- Loan or Liability?
- If you owe a person, or a person owes you, add a loan. It does not need a schedule or interest. Use Liability only for money you owe that you want counted in net worth, with no payments to record. Read more.
- Savings or Current?
- They work the same way in the budget. Choose the one your bank calls it.
- Is a fixed deposit an investment?
- Yes. Money in an FD is put away, not meant for this month. When it matures and the money comes back to your savings account, record a transfer from the FD to savings. The money goes to Left to assign.
- Credit card or overdraft?
- Choose what it really is. Both work the same way: each spend sets aside the money to repay it.

- Borrowed from a friend: loan or liability?Add it as a loan, even if there is no schedule and no interest. Then you can record each repayment, and Ahead shows what you still owe.
- On budget or tracking? On budget accounts hold money you can spend, so their money comes to Left to assign. Tracking accounts only count in your net worth.
